Tumu trip recount

 On Thursday 25th May, my hub travelled by bus to town ,to have a look at Victoria Square, Margaret Mahy Playground, the Avon River,  and the Waka. First, my group went to Victoria Square. We learned about the statues , the table with the eel picture on it and about the Pou’s. Next we walked to the Margaret Mahy playground. We walked around and looked at the prints in the path.  There were pictures of birds feet, tuna and plants that were related to the Maori in the area. We had to make pictures of these, by rubbing a croyan over the top of a piece of paper on them . We also got to play in the playground.  I went down the large metal slide, and it made my tummy hurt, it was fast. After this we went to have a look at the different types of mats in the concrete, they had the maori patterns on them.   Next we went to have a look at the Avon River, we learnt about the tuna, and got to feed them. The last thing was really exciting. We got to go to the waka.  A Waka is like a boat ,but is a moari boat,/it was made of a wood. We paddled up the river and had to sing.We learned some maori words.Then it was time to get on the bus. I really enjoyed my day,  it was really fun. 

My favourite part of the trip was going down the Avon River on the Waka.  I really enjoyed this activity because we had to row the boat, and sing a chant .  I also got wet, it was a lot of fun.   

Something I learnt was that Tuna lay their eggs and then they die.

The thing I found the most interesting was feeding the eels (Tuna). They came right up to the edge of the steps, but they didn’t eat my cat food. 

This trip has helped me with my PBL because it helped  me to learn about things that were special to Maori.  It gave me lots of information.
